We have now completed what we have internally called our “Round 0” of reviewing. This consisted of checking for duplicates, verifying all submitted materials could be accessed, and making notes about works potentially needing special attention or additional translators. As a result of this process, we now have a better estimate of the total number of submissions: over 370.

Round 0 Results

The primary goal of Round 0 reviewing was two-fold. First, we wanted to check if we had translators for all works. This required examining the submitted metadata and, in some cases, also accessing the work or additional materials to verify the language(s) of the work. Second, we wanted to merge into the overall collection any submissions of larger sets of works. In multiple cases, we received submissions of sub-collections consisting of anywhere from six to hundreds of separate works. To decrease the overall reviewing load, we asked people connected to these submissions to help us narrow down those lists to works not otherwise archived or to those best serving as examples of their sub-collections.

In late April 2026, we completed this work and compiled the following data:

Preparing for Round 1

After completing Round 0, we began work toward Round 1.

Beginning with the entire collection, we created smaller lists of between eight and 14 works based on the language of the work or specialist knowledge needed to access or understand it. These lists were then assigned to our consultants to collect data on the work using a short survey.

In early May 2026, emails were sent out to consultants with their lists and a request to return the data by mid-June 2026.

Editorial Retreat and ELO 2026 Presentation

The editorial committee plans to meet in person in late June 2026 to go over the reviewer data as well as prepare our report to be presented during ELO 2026 in July 2026.
